Collecting Stuff

I guess this post will mostly be about what I'm taking with me. There's a lot of stuff about "What You Should Take To College" and they're like "buy this, this is good to have!"

Well, I'm not buying much. I'm mostly collecting stuff from around my house. With a few investments. Like today, my mom and I picked up a 34 set of Rubbermaid tupperware. Now, I don't need a 34 set, but there was enough for us to split it, and help me start my own collection. I'm gonna be using our old Correl set that my parents used for years, but replaced with some more "modern"

Moore has regular twin sets, so I don't need to buy new bedding. I will still fit my clothes, so I'm packing up winter stuff. I can take my own bathroom stuff and replace it as  I go along.

Luckily, Moore also supplies microwaves and mini fridges to the dorms, so I don't have to worry about that. Which means I'll be teaching myself to microwave cook, after being the girl who does EVERYTHING on the stove. (Try this recipe for 5 minute cake. I used peanut butter chips instead of chocolate chips, and it was JUST like eating a giant reeses. YUM) I have been pleasantly surprised that nothing has exploded yet. YET.

Anyway, the other issue is transporting all this stuff. If you have suitcases, use those. They stack nicely and fit together, and you can repack them when you leave. A trick I use for making the most of the space in a suitcase is rolling my clothes. It really helps. I'm also using an old purple tote container, that I'm storing bulky items in, like my comforter, towels, and other bedding stuff. (I'll post pictures of all this later).

Of course, make sure you check out your college's housing restrictions before you pack. If you can't see this year's, then check last years. They usually have them in PDF form on the websites. It's usually doubtful  that they change to drastically between years.

Weee!!! More free money!

Yep, I got the Empowered Leader's scholarship for Moore! Which means that I've managed to drop tuition down to the point that it'd be relatively the same as if i went here. Which is nice.

CELEBRATION!!!!

Financial aid woes- and I made my decision!

Wow, long time since I've been on here.
In the news, I did decide that I want to go to Moore. After receiving their largest scholarship, the announcement of the iPads, and just getting to knows the girls I'll be going to school with, I just knew it was the place for me. I have a "maybe" roommate, Lindsay, who is an Illustration major. We're both kinda slobs, and have very similar interests, so it should be way to much fun.

In other news, getting accepted and filling out the FAFSA also means that I got my financial aid packet. YECH. Nasty stuff. Even with the scholarship, I'm going to be in some serious debt for the rest of my life. My dad and I are going to be going down to the local credit union to set up an account for me so I can take out a loan... for A LOT of money. I worked it out, and if I was to JUST pay tuition, without a scholarship, for 4 years, and pay off the loan in 10 years with a 4% interest, I'd owe $181,860. Not a fun number. And I'm dorming, so that jacks the price up by about 12,000 a year.

There's also the issue of me turning 18 in may. This means that my savings account, with it's measly $700 odd dollars in it, will be all mine. Meaning my parents can't put money into it easily. Before I turn 18, it is a joint savings account with my mom, meaning she can put money into it, and take it out. So she and I will be setting up another joint account, so she can give me money, and I will have to open another account in Philly, so that I can use a debit card.

And I have to get a credit card.

I hate credit cards. They're annoying and put people in way to much debt. But, if I want to buy train tickets, rent a car, or really do anything else that might include getting me back home, I gotta get one.

As to the finding of the roommate: Like any college, we at Moore get a chance to choose our roommates. Lynz and I met on the page, and I gotta say, she's one pretty cool chick. We've been pretty much constantly IMing each other since we friended each other. It has been confirmed that we both enjoy My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic, love to cook, and that I'll probably be her motivating force to get away from the laptop. Gotta love FB.

Ooh, and when the Video blogs start up (I'm getting a laptop, and a "new iPad" so I will have plenty of camera stuff. I hate the name of the "new iPad" though. Who in their right mind would call it that? It's still the iPad 3. Deal with it.) She'll probably be in some of them. Mostly cuz she's doing video blogs too. So I'll be in hers too.

Hey there stranger!

Well, first post I guess. I'm a senior in my last leg of highschool in Iowa, with dreams of attending Moore College of Art and Design, in Philadelphia. I've currently been accepted, I just need to make a decision. I really want to send in the acceptance, but my parents keep pressuring me to look other places, even though I feel like I've found the place I want to go. Due to the wonderful world of Facebook, I've already gotten the chance to make friends with many of the girls I'll be going to school with- I say girls because Moore is an all women's school.

I created this blog for one of my friends, who is an underclassman. There's not really a definitive "This is what I brought with me to art school" and "this is what it was like exactly" and "this is how my homework was" and other stuff like that. I myself am having problems figuring out what I want to bring with me. I will have limited space, because I will probably be sharing a suite with 3 other girls. And I will be moving primarily in my car.

Which is a Smart Car.

Which means I will not only be moving 4 states away, but I have a weight limit for my car, of 526 pounds, after I get in. I'm still not sure I'm gonna keep my car with me, but I do want to be able to say good bye to it. It's my baby.

I intend to major in graphic design. I've been exposed to layout and design since I was very small. My dad ran a desktop published 'zine' called Third Eye Over Iowa, so I convinced him to teach me some basic layout when I was in 3rd grade.

I've attended the Minneapolis College of Art and Design's Summer Expression Session workshop, where you are sent up to Minneapolis for two weeks to live as a student. it was incredibly stressful, but I loved it. Which is why I'm going to art school

My parents are still pressuring me to look at other places. Public universities may be cheaper, but they are also larger, and large groups of people freak me out. Why move to a major city then? you may ask. It's not so much living somewhere big, it's having to be around lots and lots of people. There's not a tight community in a large university, which I like. I like knowing everyone, and being able to recognize everyone.

Well, I think I've rambled on enough for one day.
